Transfer Roundup: Rodriguez to Join Xhaka at Arsenal?

The agent of Wolfsburg’s Ricardo Rodriguez has admitted he has a release clause in his deal which can now be activated amid reports of interest from Arsenal in the Switzerland international.

During an interview with Italian Radio station TMW, the agent confirmed that his client has recently had a release clause inserted into his contract.

The Gunners are believed to be keen to unite the left back with his recently signed compatriot Granit Xhaka who joined the North London club from Borussia Monchegladbach recently.

It’s believed Arsenal would like to find a buyer for Kieran Gibbs if Rodriguez were to arrive.

Everton remain interested in signing Netherlands and Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, 27, who had attracted the interest of former manager Roberto Martinez last season according the The Mirror.

The Toffees are in the hunt for a new goalkeeper having allowed long term number one Tim Howard join MLS club Colorado Rapids.

It appears a natural jump for the media to make with Everton set to appoint fellow Dutch man Ronald Koeman in the coming days, who’s sure to be aware of the attributes of Cillessen.

Everton’ co-owner Farhad Moshiri has promised to provide significant funds for the new manager and if the Goodison club were to sign  Cillessen it’s expected he could cost around £12million.

Liverpool are considering a move for 22-year-old Lille midfielder Sofiane Boufal according to reports in French media.

The Anfield club are known to have scouted the Moroccan international on numerous occasions last season and one of a number of clubs that have been impressed.

Boufal has a naughty streak to his game too and is prone to give away needless fouls and get involved with opponents unnecessarily. Something that may improve with age.

The petulant side to his game has drawn comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo, although if it remains to be seen if he can reach the lofty heights the Portuguese star has.

Standing at just 5 foot 7 inches tall, he’s not the normal imposing figure that Jurgen Klopp often seeks out, but the German was a known admirer of the diminutive attacker while in charge of Borussia Dortmund.

Boufal may be seen as an alternative to Mario Gotze if the club can’t convince him to come to Merseyside. Boufal suffered a knee injury towards the end of the season but is expected to be fit for the beginning of the 2016/17 campaign.

Sunderland are interested in bringing Rennes defender Cheikh M’Bengue to the Premier League according to French newspaper L’Equipe.

The Senegalese left back’s contract at Ligue 1 club Rennes where he played 25 times last season is due to expire this month and is available on a Bosman style free transfer.

The Mackems recently announced that they had agreed a deal with current left Patrick van Aanholt to remain at the Stadium of Light until 2020 so M’Bengue may provide competition for the Dutch man if signed.

Manchester United are keen to bring Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kanté to Old Trafford this summer and a move for the French international is likely once his European Championship campaign is over according to InAddedTime.com.

Jose Mourinho’s teams have always contained a defensive midfield lynchpin and the new United manager would like Kante to follow in the steps of Claude Makelele and Nemanja Matic as he looks to shape his new team and improve the spine further more.

Kante joined Leicester City from Ligue 1 club Caen last summer for a fee believed to be in the region of €8 million and went on to have a remarkable campaign for The Foxes. Scout Steve Walsh is attributed with finding many of the talents for the East Midlands club including the combative midfielder.

There have been reports that the defensive midfielder is available for as little as £20 million due to a release clause in his contract, a fee that would be no problem for Manchester United to match. Arsenal and PSG are also known admirers of the French international.
