Last month the Premier League announced the creation of a Premier League Hall of Fame, which will honour players who have played in English football’s top-flight from the 1992/93 season onwards.
Most of the most high profile best betting sites have Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, and Ryan Giggs down as nailed on favourites to be the first three inductees, with Paul Scholes, Patrick Vieira, and Roy Keane among the next in line.
To enter this particular hall of fame, the player must have already retired from professional football, and only their games in the Premier League will be taken into account, so any English football pre-1992 doesn’t exist, according to their criteria.
“A place in the Premier League Hall of Fame is reserved for the very best,” said Premier League chief executive Richard Masters.
“It will be an occasion for our fans around the world to look back over the years and help us celebrate some truly exceptional playing careers.”
This latest creation seems unnecessary and is another attempt by the modern powerhouse of English football discard anything which came before its creation in 1992.
A more authentic hall of fame exists in the National Football Museum in Manchester, where the entire history of English football is considered, as is women’s football, and the achievements of managers as well as players.
A host of legendary players and managers were indicted when the English Football Hall of Fame first opened its doors in 2002, and it has been added to ever since, up until the most recent inductions — Alex Scott and Cyrille Regis in 2019.
Below is the full list of inductees:
