Could Liverpool’s Arne Slot Deliver a Big Trophy in his Debut Season?

Arne Slot has enjoyed one of the greatest starts to a Liverpool managerial career that anyone has ever managed in history. In his opening 12 games in all competitions, he recorded 11 wins and just a single defeat, which has provided a strong hint that his team could compete for major honors this season.

It is not just Liverpool’s results that have been impressive under the Dutchman, but how they have achieved them. The Reds have consistently displayed a level of control over possession that they rarely showed in the latter Jurgen Klopp days.

The biggest trophies may not be out of reach for the Dutch coach in his debut season as his style has been embedded quicker than anybody expected. Here we will look at Liverpool’s silverware chances in year one with Slot.

A Sustained European Run is Likely

Liverpool have started their first UEFA Champions League campaign under Slot flawlessly. Three wins from the opening three games of the league phase have made Liverpool one of the early favorites in Champions League betting at +850.

The Reds’ biggest test will come against Real Madrid in November, who are slightly preferred in the Champions League winner odds at +350. A win against Los Blancos would not only prove Slot’s team is already capable of beating the elite teams but would put them on the verge of a place in the round of 16.

Liverpool would also be seeded to play one of the teams from the knockout playoff round if they secure a top-eight league phase finish. This would make them big favorites to make it to the quarter-final stage, from which any of the participants’ chances will be serious.

The Champions League is incredibly unpredictable, but Slot has already proved that his team is one of the strongest in Europe. The former Feyenoord coach cannot be ruled out of delivering the continent’s greatest club prize at the first time of asking.

Premier League is Slot’s Greatest Chance of Delivering a Big One

While Liverpool have been perfect in terms of their European results under Slot, their greatest chance of winning one of the massive trophies is still predicted to come in the form of the Premier League – they are offered at +275 to win a 20th all-time league title.

The Reds have been remarkable defensively in the competition as they conceded just three goals in the opening eight fixtures, and won every game besides the bizarre blip against Nottingham Forest. Goals were also no problem in the opening stretch of games, with just shy of two goals per game on average across the same period.

Manchester City and Arsenal are still expected to finish ahead of Liverpool at this point, and the former are big favorites at +130. However, like on the grand stage of the UCL, as long as Slot’s team keeps delivering results and maintaining pace with the strongest teams, their chances of glory are very possible.

Ultimately, Slot’s Liverpool is set to be well within the running for the two biggest trophies on offer, but the Dutchman will still need to coach further surprises to become an Anfield legend in his debut season.

The signs are undoubtedly promising and regardless of whether success comes in the immediate season, Slot looks to be an excellent managerial coup for the club.
