Euro 2028: Preview
Spain will undoubtedly be a tough nut to crack at Euro 2028 as they strive to win their third consecutive international title.
They were superb on their way to winning Euro 2024 and followed up by sweeping their opponents aside at the 2026 World Cup. Their recent 3-2 Nations League victory over England at Wembley Stadium demonstrated that they are still a class apart at international level.
France will be eager to impress under new manager Zinedine Zidane. Les Bleus are unbeaten since Zidane took charge, winning three and drawing one of their four Nations League games. However, odds of 4/1 to win the European title make limited appeal as a betting proposition.
It is a similar story where England are concerned. Bookmakers rate them as 9/2 shots to lift the trophy, but their penchant for coming up short in major tournaments is worrying. Their over-reliance on striker Harry Kane is another significant issue which manager Thomas Tuchel has yet to address.
Germany may ultimately prove to be the value bet at 9/1. They have not won a major trophy since the 2014 World Cup and will be desperate to end that streak at Euro 2028. Manager Jurgen Klopp’s ability to build teams which are greater than the sum of their parts could aid Germany’s cause.
Punters searching for value at bigger odds may be tempted by Norway. They were unfortunate to lose out to England in the World Cup quarter-finals this summer, and could be dangerous at Euro 2028 with star striker Erling Braut Haaland leading the line.
Norway have suffered a hangover from their World Cup heartbreak, losing three of their four matches in the Nations League. However, with Haaland breaking records all the time, it is not unreasonable to believe that they will eventually put that setback behind them and bounce back to form.
Teams such as the Netherlands and Italy are also worth monitoring ahead of the tournament. Netherlands are unbeaten under new manager Xavi, while Roberto Mancini guided Italy to the Euro 2020 title during his first stint in charge of the national team.
