WFI‘s Adam Brandon counts down to Russia 2018 with 90 World Cup goals in 90 days, scored in the minute corresponding to the day in the countdown.

Context

England’s World Cup in Mexico began with a poor 1-0 defeat to Portugal followed by a laboured 0-0 draw against Morocco. This left them needing to beat Poland to progress to the next round.

England got off to a poor start, gifting Poland two early chances. Thereafter, England finally came to life in this World Cup, and by the fifteenth minute England suddenly found themselves two up through two goals by Gary Lineker.

The Goal

Lineker completes a fine first half hat-trick to send England into the knockout stages…

What Happened Next?

Lineker got two more goals in the second round against Paraguay. He then added another against Argentina to claim the Golden Boot.

England’s World Cup ended against the Argentines as an inspired Diego Maradona ran the game.
