Mo Salah has started the 2021/22 season really strongly and the early signs suggest he could be set for an incredible campaign.
The Liverpool forward is averaging a goal per game and is looking like a favourite to finish as the top scorer in the Premier League.
Salah is quickly becoming a Liverpool great. This is his fifth season at the Merseyside club and he has scored 20 goals or more in all four of those campaigns. His best return came in his first year at the club as he netted 44 goals in 52 games.
The 29-year-old is a huge part of Liverpool’s attacking force. Alongside Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino – the trio are considered one of the best front lines in world football. The 2019/20 Premier League champions are 7/2 in the English Premier League odds to regain their crown. Salah’s form gives them a great chance of doing that.
The Egypt international recently made his 200th appearance for the club in a 5-0 victory over Watford. He scored in his sixth straight Premier League game and eighth consecutive match in all competitions.
Salah Must Be In Contention For Major Awards
In 2018 Salah was named the PFA Player of the Year. He is amongst the early front runners for the prestigious award again this season. Only six players in history have won the PFA Player of the Year trophy twice. They include Cristiano Ronaldo, Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, and more recently, Kevin De Bruyne added his name alongside those legends.
Salah will be competing with the likes of Ronaldo and De Bruyne for the leading individual award this season. A lot may depend on which player is able to lift their side to the Premier League title. It is likely to be a close-run contest this year.
Outside of the Premier League, Salah’s form should see him ranked highly in the 2021 Ballon d’Or. Salah was the only Liverpool player to be named on the shortlist for the award which will be handed out in Paris at the back end of November.
Despite his impressive form in the Premier League, Salah has yet to finish in the top three of the Ballon d’Or voting. Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho are expected to be in contention for the prize alongside Salah this year.
Liverpool Man Will Be Hoping For International Success With Egypt
The two-time African Football of the Year will be away from Liverpool on international duty in January. He is set to compete in the African Cup of Nations with Egypt.
Salah has yet to win a trophy with his country. He featured in the Egypt team which finished runners-up at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. His country is amongst the favourites to prevail in 2021.
2022 could be a huge year for Salah and Egypt as they will be hoping to be part of the World Cup in Qatar. The Pharaohs are into the third round of qualifying so just one step away from booking their spot in the tournament.
If Salah continues his form for club and country, it could be another record-breaking year for him. His level of form is matched by few players around the world at the moment.
